About Maya

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California with a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. As a therapist, I have worked with individuals, families and children in various clinical and educational settings.

My approach to therapy is integrative, drawing on an array of modalities, to help each client gain self-awareness, insight, and acceptance while also paying attention to the context, systems, and environment in which they live.

As a stay at home mom, a therapist and occasional PE and dance teacher, I have spent a lot of time with children from a variety of backgrounds and family configurations. In working with families, I have developed an appreciation for the impact that family life and dynamics have on our personal well-being. While kids should always feel loved, I believe there is more than one right way to be a family and to parent. I want to give you permission to attend to your needs. Sometimes that means finding the right boundaries, and sometimes that means mourning and letting go of the expectations and dreams that you didn’t get. I want to help you by finding an approach that works for you and brings you ease. I love a good metaphor so I’ll go ahead and say it, I want to help parents put on their oxygen masks first.

As a clinician I put great value in seeing and treating the whole person with an emphasis on supporting people who feel like the don’t fit in with conventional society expectations. While labels might be useful, they never tell the whole story. I am accepting of my clients' diversity and individuality, while also understanding that my knowledge is limited by my life experience. I am passionate about working with adults who have made life choices that may seem unconventional to their friends and family. I am here to offer a compassionate presence that understands there is no one right way to live.

Ultimately, I meet my clients where they are with their unique needs, situation, and goals with curiosity and presence. We are all human, and we all struggle in some way, but if we can better understand and accept who we are, we can set ourselves up for success.
